David Terrar joins the Cloud Industry Forum governance board

28/11/2010 19:54:00
D2C's CEO, David Terrar, has been invited to join the Cloud Industry Forum's governance board s an Independent Representative.

The Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), was established to promote trust, security and transparency within the sector.  Recently they launched their Code of Practice, following an extensive period of public consultation and piloting.

CIF are supported by the 3 cloud related vendor organisations in the UK:
    ○ EuroCloud UK
    ○ Intellect Software as a Service Group
    ○ BASDA Cloud Special Interest Group

At the end of 2009 all 3 of these organisations had been talking around the standards topic with the help of the ICAEW, but when it became clear early in 2010 that the Cloud Industry Forum were working on a Code of Practice they decided to endorse it rather than confuse the market with multiple options.  The materials that had been produced up to that point were handed over to CIF, and then the Code of Practice was refined and tested through the rest of the year.  A few days ago CIF formally launched the CoP, and it has been well received so far.

In order for CIF and the Code of Practices self-certification process to remain credible and trusted it needs to have an appropriate governance and enforcement model in place to oversee the development of the Code, undertake random audits of participants' self-certification claims, investigate complaints and, where appropriate, withdraw a Self-Certification in the event that participants' claims are proven to be untrue.

To that end CIF will maintain an independent and diverse Governance Board to represent the wider stakeholder communities made up as follows:

4 Members from industry vendors
3 Members from end-user organizations or User Groups
3 Members from independent advisors (academics, IT standards champions, etc).
2 Members from IT legal practice

You can see the current governance board here.

David is delighted to be involved, and we're glad that D2C is supporting an initiative that helps the buyer make an informed choice on the quality of cloud service providers.
