David Terrar appointed Chair Intellect SaaS Group

14/01/2010 17:00:00
We are pleased to announce that our CEO, David Terrar, has been appointed Chair of the Intellect Software as a Service Group.  We reported back on March 24th last year that he was  confirmed as Vice Chair when Hamish Edwards, the group's founder, was appointed  as Chair.  Hamish is  one of the original founders of online accounting company Xero out of New Zealand.  With the task of setting up and kicking off their UK presence complete he moved  back home in the middle of 2009 to help their further International expansion.  We wish him the best of luck.  With Hamish's departure David had been acting Chair for the last few months.  The rest of the group decided confirmed David as the Chair at an Intellect meeting on the 14th January.

The group was originally instigated by Hamish early in 2008 with representatives from UK SaaS accounting players like Kashflow, e-conomic, Validis, CODA/FinancialForce and  D2C representing  Twinfield.  The intention was  to set aside their rivalry and work together to raise public awareness of the benefits SaaS and cloud computing for industrial and public sector applications.  As we've reported before we decided to formalise the group under the guidance of Intellect, the organization set up to represent the UK's technology industry.  Intellect was created in 2002, but can trace its history back 75 years to the British Radio Manufacturers Association.   They have over 800 member companies, 500 of which are SMEs.

The Intellect SaaS group has been widened from just accounting to cover all SaaS application software, and the aims are to:
    - publically raise awareness about the benefits of SaaS.
    - connect with media and industry leaders to enhance their understanding of SaaS.
    - to act as an independent point of contact for anyone interested in SaaS.
    - to act as a forum to meet and network with others with an interest in SaaS.
